Finding Your Purpose (a.k.a. What to Do With Your Life)
Let’s start here if you’re feeling confused: your purpose and your passion are two separate things, though they’re often intertwined.
Purpose is the reason for which something or someone exists—you.
Passion is your enthusiasm, desire, and fondness for something.
Feeling Destined for More?
Have you ever thought that you're destined for more in your life than you currently have? That's okay—and so have millions of other people.
Some individuals are born knowing exactly what they want to do in life. For others, this discovery may take more time. As someone who has always been infatuated with dance and performance, it was exciting for me to venture into other creative outlets. But as time passed, I tried other things. Were these things fulfilling me? Did they make me happy? Was I content with where my life was? I could say yes and no to some of those questions.
Discovering Your Purpose
The main idea is that you have to figure out what your purpose in this life is. Define the purpose of humanity and apply it to yourself:
What do you genuinely enjoy doing?
What do you enjoy providing or giving to other people?
What is that whisper of a voice in your head always telling you to do when you're doing something else?
It's not always easy and may require more time for some than others. Remember, don’t feel discouraged if you feel like it’s taking longer for you. We’re all on our own path. :)
Providing Value Generates Meaning
What I discovered is that when you take action to provide value, this generates meaning for others. Not that you're doing this simply for the sake of others, but you're doing it for yourself. If it does improve the lives of others, even by a little, that's great!
Providing quality value to people will end up coming back to you. This is when the money will flow into your life. This is when the friends, the relationships, the types of opportunities, and the experiences that you've longed for and have always dreamed of will come into fruition and be your new reality.
Overcoming Mental Noise
To be blunt with you, what's hiding you from your purpose is all the noise in and around your head. Stop trying to please people on a daily basis. Stop worrying about what people are going to say or think about you when you're making decisions in your life.
News flash: Everyone is so obsessed with themselves that they're not worried about you as much as you think they are. Plus, we live on a big floating rock. Just think about that.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Leave your comfort zone; the new life you want is not there.
Purpose isn't found; it's discovered. Keep experimenting to discover what this is. Show up for yourself in ways that you haven't before. 90% of our doings in life are simply from us just showing up.
You can only discover your purpose through action, not by thought.
